According to research done by The Bass Channel, the people who design and name instruments for Schecter are all between the ages of 14 and 17, exist solely on Coke, Pixie Stix, and Slayer, and are completely unsupervised by any responsible adults. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The newest bass model to come out of this sugar-rush fever dream is the Mad Libs-winning Silver Mountain Toxic Venom, a black and green masterpiece that looks like what Peter Steele would have designed if he was also Neo from “The Matrix.” We are in love. An instrument is supposed to be visually striking. Yes, everyone loves a good, solid Fender Jazz bass. It sounds good, it looks classic, and it tells everyone you mean business. But there are those among us who have kept brands like Schecter and BC Rich in business because we want to look badass and wield an axe that could probably kill someone, and no one would think the resulting blood spatter looked out of place.

Because we have to pretend we’re not just buying an instrument based on looks, here are the technical details- The Toxic Holocaust Silver Fox comes in both four and five string configurations. The body is mahogany and the fretboard is ebony. The fretboard also has glow-in-the-dark markers on the side of the neck. It has a set neck with a Schecter custom bridge. Both pickups are Fishman Fluance Soapbars, and it has four knobs and a switch, all of which you’ll constantly mix up until you get used to what does what to the sound. The paint of each bass contains 666ccs of venom from the Black Mamba snake and one in every nine thousand has a copy of Peter Steele’s Playgirl spread hidden in the battery compartment. According to the Schecter website the four string will sell for around $1,200 and the five string will be around $1,300.

Hopefully we can get our hands on one of these beautiful beasts soon so we can get a sound to go along with the look (Schecter, call me). But judging this book based only on the cover, we would guess that PTAs across the country would try to ban it from their school to protect the children. And that’s exactly the kind of thing we’re into.

We dub the Schecter Silver Mountain Toxic Venom DROOLWORTHY. What do you think? Tell us in the comments.
