Latenite Automatic Makes Disco Goth

Latenite Automatic is a dark electronic meets post-punk duo made up of Scott Whalen (formerly of Imonolith) and Jay Brown (Weddings). Born 13 years ago in Vancouver over a shared love of Depeche Mode, Bowie, and Nine Inch Nails, Latenite Automatic was built on layers of atmospheric guitar, slinky synths, and harmonies both haunting and head-bopping. It looked like the end of Latenite Automatic when Jay left his Canadian home and moved to Vienna, Austria. But the forced isolation of the pandemic is finally showing some of its silver linings as the two friends reignited their creative spark through quarantine video calls. Driven to combine what they had done on pervious albums You Are Electric? and They Treated Us Like Animals And That’s What We Became with a more mature, direct approach and a darker, more sinister vibe, Whalen and Brown are unleashing the first single from the upcoming Wahrheiten (German for “truth”) on March 18th. The first single- “Statues”- deserves to be blasted at top volume in a darkened room so the driving beat and the duo’s vocal melodies can properly wash over and surround the listener. The band says this album questions past mistakes, considers the fragility of all relationships and looks for light in the darkness of uncertain times, all the while searching for the truth. If this is a taste of the truth, then it’s the truth we’ve all been searching for.
